Rationale 2

So my assignment is done...

Took me a while to figure out what to do. Once I finally decided on the project, I took my photos and used a hand-held decibel meter to mark down the volume of the crowd at the time of each photo. Then I had to decide how to use this.

Since we have been using Final Cut Pro in my other course, I figured I could use it to do this assignment. Originally I just overlayed the graph over the video and let it stay still. This looked boring though. So I made it move in time with the photos. This had all sorts of problems like the file type I used would only show for 12 seconds, while my video is 56 seconds long. So I had to use multiple instances of the same image, and with the motion this meant I had to line up the graph between frames by eye. From time to time u may notice the graphs jump a little.

You will also notice that there are two graphs. The original sound graph is in orange and the blue graph is the number of people in the crowd in time with the photos.

One related work i have seen was a video in the same style of the construction of new Parliament House, with daily photos from Mount Ainslie, overlayed with a graph of the cost of construction. I saw this once years ago, and I don't know where. I haven't been able to find this anywhere, but i have a vivid memory of it. As a comparison, that one was done professionally, so it was of a higher quality, however the idealolgy was the same.

My work does not look as pretty as i had hoped... the images are not as high quality as I had hoped, but for the large amount of effort I put in to this, it works quite well. :)
